How To Get Ready To Lay Out Your Catio And Get Ready To Build.

 

If you think you can build your own Catio I am going to try and help you.  I understand that my Catios you see at CatiosOfTexas.com are what you say high end Catios.  I put a lot more time into the building and design than most people think.

Pick your spot for your Catio.

Some people are limited to where they can put one. Lots of times people think that they are limited till I start talking to them.  Put a lot of thought in it and look at multiple locations.

When thinking don’t think about how big of foot print it will have but the total area of the catio.  Your not building for humans remember.

Tools needed for Catio.

You will need quite a few tools.  Its best to have a miter saw, table saw, hammers, all types of hand tools. You will have problems with a lot of things or mistakes.  So you might have to take things back apart.  It’s best to have many types of drill guns.  You can make them with nails.  I don’t for many reasons, but you can do it like that. I will be just a little cheaper to do that.

Also ladders, Stapler, Compressor if needed, Measuring tapes I have 5 to 8 out at a time most the time building. Lots of pencils, note pad, 

Wire for Catio

.You can use chicken wire if you want, prob the cheapest.  I use a 2 inch by 2 inch wire. 

Wood for Catio.

You can use any wood you want. Just know that some woods will rot faster. I use treated wood only.  You can use plywood. I generally never use it but when making boxes for cat homes or play areas. 

I suggest not staining it like furniture.  Use a good paint or something else other than a clear type stain. But you can use what you want or nothing at all.  I like catios to have color and pigments keep the sun off the wood. And just look nicer.

Working job

Just know it will prob take you a lot longer than you think to build and will need more supplies than you will probably think.  They look simple but are really kinda complex.

This will help you get started.  I could write a book on it.  You will have to learn a lot.  The most important thing is to get your cats out. It will make you and your cats lives better.

I will also tell you have had many people start to build a catio found they did not have the skill set and called me. I have over 40 years of experience with building things.
